The Internet of Things is an all encompassing term that describes the network of interrelated devices that connect and exchange data between each other.

The specific devices the IoT connects are smart devices, or devices that are generally connected through wireless mechanisms.

More technically, the IoT refers to devices with processing ability, software, and the ability to communicate over the network.
